A Race for All Athletes

This Sunday marked the 11th year o

f

the Achilles Hope and Possibility 5-Mile in Central Park, and the event celebrated 30 years of cooperation between Achilles International and NYRR

The club was founded in 1983 by Dick Traum, the first above-the-knee amputee to finish the New York City Marathon, and offers athletes with physical and mental disabilities opportunities to participate in athletic events.

This race, founded in 2003 with help from Trisha Meili, the “Central Park Jogger,” gives athletes of all abilities the chance to test themselves over the five-mile course.
